Yay, a day off... Just in my new job for a little over a month and I've already experience the joys of working for the state... holidays!
Well on this specific day it started out as any other "Saturday" would, slept in, made breakfast, got my hair done... and then lunch with a friend who is in real estate and a mortgage broker.
John thought it would be a good use of our day off to meet about the prospect of buying a house some time this year... this YEAR... (that's a remainder of 10 months, we're talking about).
With the market being so low and knowing that this was something that we wanted to do, we figured it had to be soon or we would never get a chance like this again!
We met with Doug Stephan (Who is awesome btw!!) and our main intention was to just talk about our finances and see what debts we needed to pay off... or at least down and to get a 5-6 month plan started so we could be in the place to purchase a house this YEAR (still 10 months remaining).
Doug took down our information, SSN, pay stubs, debts, bills... and did a little magic pre-calculation and... wha la, figured out what our "6 month" plan should be.
I'll never forget what he said after he looked at all the numbers...
"Well, looks like you guys are ready when YOU'RE ready"...
John and I played it totally cool like, alright... sure, we'll get our 6 month plan together and call you then... again Doug said "That's fine, but I just want to make sure you guys know, that your ready to buy a home... when you're ready!"
As we said good bye and thanked him for coming over... John and I headed back inside looked at each other and had the faces of someone who was elated, scared, excited, nervous... sick (mostly me) and most of all overwhelmed! Wow... what a great Monday!
